Me, Beary and Bak Kut Teh

WARNING : This post is about a pork dish.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Here am I blogging about food again.  I do not understand why of recent my posts are all on food when I am trying very hard in losing weight.  WTF!!

I guess my life must be boring.  FML!!

Be it boring or exciting, you will just have to bear with me as, I still want to blog about this dish. Smiley  Nevertheless, its going to be in the simplest form i.e with pics max loads.  I'll start with a brief Smiley LOL

The coffee shop has gone through some renovation.  It used to be a meh-meh place for Cincau.  But in that coffee shop is a stall, a stall that I could not resist.  It serves one of the most yummy bak kut teh around KK.  Some people says the best is at Jalan Gaya, which only operates at night.  Then how about for lunch?  This is where I go to:

Lido, Penampang
Sooooo glad its renovated.  No more meh-meh
Auntie and her more organised stall.
Do you know the history of bak kut teh in Malaysia?  Which its origin was at the then labour intensive Port Klang area?  Click here for its history and ingredients.

Condiments to satisfy your taste buds
This is the way Cincau likes it.  small sized chili and garlic with light soy sauce
daddy Beary's big & small chili, garlic, light & dark soy sauce
You know the wait is worth-ful when you are being presented with this:

Bak kut teh in hot claypot
The finest "cut".  Damn satisfying!!
Beary gobbling away
While I'm enjoying this juicy-ful dish, a minor commotion broke out:

Cincau : I want to try your condiment
Beary : Stay away.  Not enuf for 2!!
What la???? Just trying out mah.  With the additional dark soy sauce, its sweeter compared to the salty light.

Excuse me, I need to make an ugly expression:

BURP!!
Ahh....... sooooo good!!!  What's the name of that coffee shop?  Here it is:

Kedai Kopi Keng Lok Yin
Its a corner shop immediately to your left on the main entry junction.  Definitely won't miss it.

My lunch did not end with the taking of the above pic.  Instead, this was how it ended:

X marks the spot I was standing at.  Being shooed away.
Is the curb for pedestrians or bully drivers? Smiley

DISCLAIMER : This post is constructed with much care and in no way meant to offend anyone.  Alternatively, you may substitute pork with poultry (chicken) meat.

Wok With Beary

Last Thursday, daddy Beary noticed his sexy shirtless pic while cooking.  He was mad upset that I did not tinkle him.  Pai seh wa.  Shiu-shiu!! (Pai seh = shiu-shiu = shy)

And so to do some justice on him, this post features him cooking (with his shirt on) using his faithful wok.  Gosh, I must have watched too many cooking channels.  Before this was him in Jaime Oliver's character, and now in Stephen Yan's.  Enuf said!

Yo! Beary, why the serious look?  Smile for the camera.
That's more like it.
Some tossing is required.
Voila! daddy Beary's signature fried rice
This past week had been a blessed week for Beary did all the cooking while I was.......... clearing the plates.  I have to make a confession here......... (I hate cooking!!).  ZOMG am I lucky or what to have a man who's willing to cook.  And to max-max him with more justice, these were the dinner meals from Monday - Friday:

Monday yummies
Wednesday Drools
Thursday Licky-licious
Friday Awesome-ness
Everyday wok ideas, just Beary and his faithful wok Smiley.

How about Tuesday?  I was away for evening meeting and hence, was unable to take any pic.  Anyway, do not be despair, for Tuesday's dinner is the same as........ kindly refer to Friday's.

And here's my plate of fried rice as the wrap up of a week's dinner by the cincau family:

THANK YOU BEARY!!

Thinking of Avocados

A while ago I was in the midst of cutting and digging out the flesh of avocados, when it suddenly struck me, why not just create a post on it???  Afterall, its been awhile since I post something about the cincau family.

BUT please bear in mind, at the end of this post, you may summarise all this as crappy sh*t.  Nevertheless, I still want to blog about it.... ha ha ha Smiley.

And so, here is my 1st picture after digging out the avocado flesh:

The result after digging out "Gold"
Since there's flesh, there should be the skin too:

Skin in trash bag
And here's a picture of me adding vanilla ice cream on top:

Adding sweetness to the bland fruit
Mixing and blending till it reaches its creamy texture
Voila!! Mission accomplished.
This is the simplest way in preparing the sweet savoury.  Of course, there are other ways in presenting this fruit...... such as the experiment made by daddy Beary:

daddy Beary's Yam-ey Avocado Mousse
My Vanilla creamy avocado with chunky bits
Voila!! Mission accomplished x 2!!
Err..... Beary, your avocado looked...... Smiley
While I was being a pastry chef, brother Cheeky and little Manja were:

Darn kids can't be still (1)
Darn kids can't be still (2)
The final result of this whole kitchen activity is to enjoy the fruit of my labour:

Avocado-ey-ly yummy

And 1 last pic, as commanded by Mr. Demanding:

Err....... I mean little Manja

CHOCOLATE FOR THE SOUL

What are little girls made of?
Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice.
That's what little girls are made of.

How popular is this poem describing the ultra sweetness of the female species.  The upper phrase of this poem mentioned of the boys ingredients.  Do you know what boys are made of?  Not that I care of....... for now. Smiley

Everytime after a trip, I would bring back some of these:

Chocoholic spree..... wheeeeee!!
I love chocolates!  I love chocolates!  I love chocolates!  Cincau is an avid lover of chocolates.  They taste heavenly, melt in your mouth and in your hand.  That greasy and gooey texture just fill the soul with sweetness and magically create the feel good factor.  Magical??..... maybe overly extreme.  How about "sudden rush"??
Smiley

Do you know there are health benefits in eating chocolates?  Below the extract from www.stuffedchocolate.com

Dark Chocolate Is Healthy ChocolateDark Chocolate Has Health Benefits Not Seen in Other Varieties
By Daniel DeNoon
Dark chocolate -- not white chocolate -- lowers high blood pressure, say Dirk Taubert, MD, PhD, and colleagues at the University of Cologne, Germany. Their report appears in the Aug. 27 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association.
But that's no license to go on a chocolate binge. Eating more dark chocolate can help lower blood pressure -- if you've reached a certain age and have mild high blood pressure, say the researchers. But you have to balance the extra calories by eating less of other things.

Antioxidants in Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate -- but not milk chocolate or dark chocolate eaten with milk -- is a potent antioxidant, report Mauro Serafini, PhD, of Italy's National Institute for Food and Nutrition Research in Rome, and colleagues. Their report appears in the Aug. 28 issue of Nature. Antioxidants gobble up free radicals, destructive molecules that are implicated in heart disease and other ailments."Our findings indicate that milk may interfere with the absorption of antioxidants from chocolate ... and may therefore negate the potential health benefits that can be derived from eating moderate amounts of dark chocolate."
Translation: Say "Dark, please," when ordering at the chocolate counter. Don't even think of washing it down with milk. And if health is your excuse for eating chocolate, remember the word "moderate" as you nibble.

Okay, so the above says dark chocolate........ NOT MY KIND OF TASTE!!  Its because of the multiple processing from dark to milk, precious flavonoids is stripped off.  It is flavonoids that provides the bitter and pungent taste.

Nevertheless, manufacturers are already studying ways to retain a generous amount of flavonoids with acceptable taste even in milk chocolates. Eiyahoo!!  Dear manufacturers, I'm rooting on ya!!
Smiley

With sooooooo many different brands of chocolates available in the market, which is recommendable?  Even after so many years, I do not have one specific preference.  I have to say this, it all depends on your taste buds.  Nevertheless, for this time round, I'm following my ultra demanding boss as he took this and paid at the counter:

Monkey sees, monkey follows..... choco-ey with biscuits.
As much as Cincau would like to say the refreshing cincau drink is by far the best, but how can I compare an apple with an orange?  2 different food, both with their distinct specialties.  I'll just have to put both of my thumbs up for each one of them. Smiley Smiley

Yay!!
Boss..... you really know how to enjoy, ya.  Even brother Cheeky Smiley your choice.
